So you are interested in a puppy with Full AKC registration?
Thank you for your interest in buying a puppy from us with Full AKC registration (show/breeding rights). We prefer our puppies to go to pet homes where they can be spoiled and remain loving members of the same family all of their lives. However, we also have worked very hard to establish nice conformation and good pedigrees in our dogs’ bloodlines and will on occasion sell a puppy with full AKC registration to an established show home or another small breeder with good references. We do not knowingly sell to puppy mills, commercial kennels, or resellers of any kind.
The following information is provided to help you make an informed decision about our policies regarding puppies sold with full AKC show and breeding rights.
For full AKC, I do ask for at least 3 professional references. One must be your veterinarian. The other two need to be either other breeders or show handlers that are familiar with you, your dogs, and your program. One of these three must have visited your home/kennel.
Then, in addition to the questions on my questionnaire, I want to hear from you about your goals in breeding, showing, and other activities. I want to know how your dogs are kept and your philosophies in breeding. We don’t have to have all the same views as every program is different, but I want to know what the life of my puppy would be like in your program. I want to know that the bloodlines I have been entrusted with by others in this fancy will be treated respectfully and bred responsibly.
Prices for full AKC puppies will be considerably higher than my “pet” prices and are set on a case-by-case basis. Do not expect to pay less than $1200 for a male or $1500 for a female with full AKC. I also modify every full AKC puppy contract individually to address the particular situation. Every one is different. We will talk about any restrictions or stipulations on breeding…some lines I may ask that you not transfer any offspring of the puppy out of your program with full AKC rights without prior approval. In some situations, I will offer a puppy with full AKC only on a co-ownership agreement. Please be honest with me up front if this is something you would be willing to discuss so we don’t waste each other’s time if it is not.
For deposits on full AKC puppies, I do allow you until 7 weeks of age to evaluate the conformation of the puppy you choose and if s/he is not turning out as you expected, request your deposit back. (This is a little bit different than my “pet” contract, where deposits are non-refundable once placed.) I try to do the best I can with pictures and video to help you evaluate the puppy and I would also invite you to visit your puppy in person at 7 weeks of age if you are close enough to do so. However, after 7 weeks of age, the deposit does become non-refundable should you change your mind after that time.
Although educated guesses can be made, at no time can I make any guarantees on adult size or conformation. I also cannot promise any particular puppy will be able to be shown to an AKC CH title. There are too many factors in the growth, development, socialization, and training of a dachshund puppy that are beyond a breeder’s control to make those kind of promises.
If you have any other questions for me about our policies for selling puppies with full AKC registration, please don’t hesitate to ask! I love meeting other breeders and visiting about our dogs, so whether you are interested in a puppy from us or have a question about our program or just want to say “Hi!”, I invite you to drop me a note so we can get to know each other. jenny@jennyspups.net I look forward to visiting with you!
